Jess always begins with how her clients truly live. For this kitchen remodel, the client was Jess herself: dramatic black cabinetry, brushed gold that reads like fine jewelry and soft blue lacquer come together in a room that feels both formal and comfortable.

Gold Against Black
The palette & the detailsA touch of black brings depth and character, and brushed gold hardware gives it sparkle. In place of a traditional walk-in pantry, deep custom drawers keep everyday staples close, while robin’s egg blue lacquered cabinets above hold the larger appliances, finished with Jess’s signature gold mesh inserts, a nod to her New England roots.
Rectangular subway tile with dark grout runs all the way to the ceiling for a graphic, timeless look. Whitewashed wide-plank floors and a white island topped in black walnut balance the drama. Jess collaborated with BMC Builders on the custom details.

Triangle edition · August / September 2018Home Design & Decor featured this kitchen in its Kitchen & Bath issue under the headline “Classic with a Twist.” The story follows the room from the brushed gold and black cabinetry to the breakfast banquette, where Fornasetti plates add a touch of whimsy and Jacobean floral pillows in blue and dark taupe tie the kitchen together.
